I met Mary Elizabeth (or M.E.) when she and her husband Zach moved to NYC about 5 years ago because some of their friends told her to be friends with our friends. And it worked! In that time frame Vlad and I got married, the four of us became neighbors, joined the same church, I got a job at the same organization as Mary Elizabeth, and she and Zach moved to Brooklyn (boo) and had a baby (yay).
Between major milestones and lots of game nights, ski trips, and general merriment, these folks have been with us through thick and thin. Here are two crafts I made for M.E., one new and one old.
M.E. is an amazing coworker—and manager. She’s also my boss’s boss, which is a relatively recent development but hasn’t changed too much of our dynamic. I recently made her this piece with a pattern from BrynnandCo.
It’s mostly satin stitch, so pretty straightforward to make—but the negative space effect is very cool.
And a bonus craft!
M.E. and Zach have an extremely cute little boy, Ari. I had the privilege of co-hosting their baby shower about a year and a half ago, and I made these hot air balloons for decorations that are now up in Ari’s room. Inspiration from, where else, Pinterest.
My friend and fellow shower co-host Diane had these leftover paper lanterns from her wedding, and I used craft paint to add 4 stripes on each. Then add some cord/rope from Michael’s, mini pails, colored paper, hot glue, and mini cloth gift bags—and voila!
Foxes are a thing in the Margolis household, especially when it comes to Ari. Over the years Vlad and I have gifted them the fox ornaments that now sail in these little hot air balloons.
M.E. is also pretty creative in her own right—she painted this landscape for Ari’s room all by herself.
And now, some fun times photos! Not just showing 50 pictures of Ari took some extreme restraint.
