I’m super blessed to have a really great mom, and a really great mother-in-law. So I want to take a moment to give them a shout-out and share this project.
I’ve been making a lot of pins for the Marché Maman pop up and my mom may or may not have hinted that she would like one too. So I made one for her and for my MIL. These delicate little flowers come from Kazuko Aoki’s The Embroidered Garden.
My mom and I fought a lot when I was growing up, and through my college years. And while some of it was pretty rough, I’m actually glad we went through it. Our relationship now is stronger for it. There isn’t much built up between us, and when stuff happens we can talk about it. I can call on her for support and just about anything else. I also really appreciate the way she encourages my creativity. And she’s a pretty rad stitcher herself.
Natasha, may mother-in-law, is a really sweet person who welcomed me into the Kucherov family. I don’t think there’s anything she wouldn’t do for the people in her life. I appreciate the way she looks out for her children, including me. She’s also a creative person, and makes all kinds of lovely art projects in her home that continue to inspire me.
I know that Mother’s Day can be really challenging for a lot of folks for a lot of different reasons. I do believe that “mothering” is more than a person who birthed someone. There are a lot of other great mothers in my life who may or may not have biological children, but their love is a profound gift, and I’m grateful for them too.
